Blanca is a Spanish municipality, located in the north of the Region of Murcia, in the Vega Alta del Segura river, although historically it has also been linked to the Ricote Valley.

The Ricote valley, also known as the Moorish valley, is a historical region of the Region of Murcia, in Spain, located in the north of the region and in the middle basin of the Segura River. It is made up of the municipalities of Archena, Ojós, Ricote, Ulea and Villanueva del Río Segura. It also includes the municipality of Blanca.

The period of Muslim domination of this valley, between the 8th and 13th centuries, was very fruitful in cultural terms. The Ricote Valley was the starting point of one of the most important Muslim warlords of the 13th century, Ibn Hud, who, after his uprising in the castle of Ricote, managed to unite a large part of the Spanish Muslim territory under his rule for ten years.

In the 11th century al-Bakri wrote: The Tudmir (Segura) is a river which the mountains enclose in a place known as Ricote (Riqūt), at a distance of 18 miles from Murcia [about 33 km], so that there man can stop its course. If it were not for these mountains, the torrential waters would flood Murcia.1

In 1243, by the Treaty of Alcaraz, this valley, like the rest of the Kingdom of Murcia, was incorporated into the Crown of Castile.
